Best fix if File Renamer won't launch for you
Here are some possible fixes for anyone having difficulty launching / opening File Renamer:
1) Reinstall File Renamer by right clicking on the installation file, and clicking 'Run as administrator'
2) Launch File Renamer, by right clicking on the icon on your desktop, and clicking 'Run as administrator'.If neither of those work, then do a complete uninstall by using the free tool "Revo Uninstaller" - which you can download at:
http://download.cnet.com/Revo-Uninst...-10687648.html
Reboot your computer, then start back at step 1 (reinstall File Renamer by right clicking on the installation file, and clicking 'Run as administrator')
This has fixed the issue for everyone we've found having a problem launching File Renamer. Please let us know if you continue to have any difficulties after trying these fixes.

Unfortunately it doesn't helpd for me. I use Win XP SP3. All of my about 200 programs work fine except File Renamer. I have already uninstalled it with Revo Uninstaller, deleted everything was marked bold, and after a reboot, reinstalled as Administrator again. After launching File Renamer I can't see the program window, but I see it's activities in the task manager. It uses many system resources.

Same thing here ...
And, I purchased File Renamer Deluxe, only to find File Renamer Basic will not run. In hindsight I realize, if Basic does not run on your computer, then Deluxe does not have a chance at running.

99 out of 100 people who try this method to get it working have success. There must be something odd about the few rare cases that we simply cannot duplicate. Any additional information would be extremely helpful to us in looking for a solution for you.

When I executed the program, a slash screen appeared, then a window appeared in front of the splash screen. The title of the window was "View Startup Log". The window reported:
"We detected that File Renamer wasn't able to open properly tast time, would you like to view the log file to send to the technical support team at Sherrod Computers? Clicking "Yes" will open Windows Explorer to the path that holds the Log File(Loading_log.txt). You can then e-mail that to [email protected]."
Following that information was a button for Yes and a button for No. I selected Yes and was provided two files, i.e., loading_log.txt and startup.lck. The file, "loading-log" reported:
04/11/2011 12:07:34 - File Renamer: 6.3.0
04/11/2011 12:07:34 - User Store Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\File Renamer Basic
04/11/2011 12:07:34 - Application Path: C:\Program Files\File Renamer
04/11/2011 12:07:34 - Loading CommandBars
04/11/2011 12:07:34 - Loading SuiteControls
04/11/2011 12:07:34 - Loading SkinFramework
04/11/2011 12:07:34 - Positioning Window (Top | 0) (Left: 0)
04/11/2011 12:07:35 - Loading SkinThe file, "startup" reported:
04/20/2011 03:01:06
I accessed "Task Manager" and saw File Renamer was present without a user interface. I ended it.

I am running XP on a laptop with 1.73Ghz Intel processor and 2GB memory. Here's the steps I used to attempt the reinstall:
1. Uninstalled using Revo and allowed it to clean up registry
2. Rebooted and downloaded a fresh copy of File Rename v6.3
3. Turned off anti-virus
4. Right clicked on downloaded file but my only choices were "Current user" (which is me as the only user and as Administrator) and "Administrator". When
I selected Administrator it wouldn't accept a blank password. I've never set up a seperate account so never needed a password. When I double-
checked User Profiles there was only one (me) listed and I have administrative rights so my only real choice was me.During installation I received the following message:
"Registration of some ActiveX controls and/or Type Libraries failed.
Installation will finish but the application may not work properly.
The following controls couldn't be registered:
C:\Program Files\File Renamer\aisExif.dll"When I attempted to run the program I received the following message:
'Error loading the EXIF Tag reading module.
File Renamer will continue to load but the EXIF functionality
will be non-functional (you can turn this notification off in the
Program Option'Since I am a "Deluxe" subscriber, I inserted my key but the error message still came up when I restarted the program.
The interesting thing is I've used this program before on this computer without issue but I recently re-installed XP and just now decided to re-install File Renamer to work on some photos.Help....
